Water sports

The Al Bustan Palace and the Al Chedi Palace, both have their own private beach, but the other hotels do not, so we tend to make the watersports into an event in its own right.

If we are at the Al Bustan, rather than take a coach, we can get small fishing boats to come and pick the guests up from the beach, and take them round to the Oman Dive Centre by sea - these little boats take up to 5 or 6 people in each one. Please remember that whilst these fishermen have recognised that they have a nice little sideline in this, we cannot state that we want all the boats to take a certain number of people, we just tell them how many we have in the group and they send boats accordingly. We send somebody to the village to chat to them and we always try to get the bigger ones but it really depends on whose turn it is to come out on that day!!

The Oman Dive Center is a lovely facility that really works well without all the flashy ostentation of it's UAE's counterparts. They have a really pretty terrace that we use for lunch, we have sunbeds on the beach - the water is limpid clear, and usually quite calm. We bring in jet skis, and the waterskiing and banana boats, and the guests can also go off around the coastline to explore some of the private coves, and snorkel off the beaches there amongst the rocks. The water in the Gulf of Oman is the bluest of blues, and so clear, that just sitting in a boat offshore you can enjoy the wonders of the marine life.

Lunch on the terrace and then we make our way back to the hotel in time to change for dinner.
