On the front lines
Yes the usual suspects from Dubai, but let's see why they are also immesurably helpful in Oman.
Theresa. Has been working in Oman since the first DAY that the borders opened for tourism back in the early 80's She can open doors that others have forgotten existed, she gets us into Forts that are usually closed to the public, and can even tell you the number plates of the coaches that we really dont want to use! She also loves the country, and will do whatever it takes for people to see it in the best possible light.
Saeed. Remember Saeed is from Yemen, a close neighbour to Oman. His knowledge of the country is awesome! And of course he speaks Arabic so whenever we get a blank look (which usually means - I dont want to understand you) not only can he get over that little obstacle but he can also tell them exactly what we want, how we want it and when - no disputing that one!
Dorrit spent 10 years in the UAE and Oman before she went back to Germany, and when she walks back into any hotel that we use in Muscat the relief is visble on the faces of the hotel staff, 'Oh good it's Dorrit' she plays them like a concert violinist - and they never, ever realise!
Pat is another one with 10 years gulf experience in hotels, and therefore has the patience, and stamina to cope with the most obtuse of answers from hotel staff. She can also tell instinctively when handing over room gifts if she should go along and just keep the guy 'company' to see they get into the rooms, or if they will be safely delivered!
Nicola, who has enough experience worldwide to understand that she is dealing with a different nationality and therefore it really doesnt get us any further forward by shouting! You need A VERY BIG STICK
Sheona, who has done the Paris Dakkar more times than is sensible for any woman, and is another one who has patience and stamina beyond belief and who knows how to get her point accross in several languages!
