About Oman
The difference between Oman and Dubai is amazing. One could
be forgiven for thinking that two countries separated only
by a rather friendly border post, would be similar, however
nothing could be further from the truth.
Oman has so much to offer it's difficult to know where to
begin.
Oman is a far more visually historical country than the UAE,
with settlements dating back as far as 3000 BC and more recently
a large Omani empire that reached it's peak in the early 1800's.
This older, more tangible atmosphere of Arabia that the city
of Muscat (the capital of Oman) exudes, along with the smaller
towns - helps to give Oman more appeal than many other gulf
countries.
Historical landmarks, forts and museums are scattered everywhere
and in fact after you have driven out of the city, seeing
a modern building really seems out of the ordinary. This is
helped by the fact that everywhere is so well cared for and
clean, clearly showing the pride that the Omanis have in
their country.
All in all Oman and Muscat especially are without a doubt
the most beautiful and unforgettable places in the Gulf region.
So what does Oman have to offer? Muscat is still really in
a stage of conference and incentive development and to the
inexperienced appear to be difficult to work, however if you
have the right programme then it really is a great place to
go.
Imagine a lunch around a real wadi, not one that sees two
drops of rain every year a real wadi full to the brim with
clean water surrounded by palm trees, after a morning walking
around a 400 year old restored fort it would come as a welcome
break.
Shopping in the old souks - souks that you really can get
lost in, souks that have been the same way for hundreds of
years, with lunch afterwards on the harbour overlooking the
dhows loading their wares.
Boat trips around the fjords in absolutely crystal clear
waters, you don't need to snorkel just look over the side
then afterwards the boats pull into a lunch on a private
beach.
The Arabic nights are also totally different, even for those
who have lived in the gulf for over twenty years now and are
convinced beforehand it would be the same.. it's not it's
completely different in service, food and entertainment.
The best and most popular event within a Dubai programme is the "Day
Trip". Imagine sitting at dinner thinking that tomorrow
you have to do another day in the conference center and then
finding a ticket to Muscat tucked inside the napkin.. a day
trip to Oman! It is quite possible, tried and tested, and
totally unforgettable.
All in all Oman is a perfect incentive destination.
Although Oman is one of those places that we are convinced
if they allowed it to, would become the second or perhaps
even the biggest Middle East destination we dont think that
they want to go the same way as Dubai. There is an integrity
in Oman, to their culture, to their traditions and to their
people.
The number of possible events is a little restricted when
compared to Dubai, which is the problem that we face a lot
of the time with people thinking that they must be similar
places and to expect the same thing.
The problems mainly arise from the lack of experience that
the main suppliers have, they are in no way incompetent or
bad at their jobs and they do have the "OK we'll try
that attitude" that we love so much, but they do need
a lot of help and coaxing not because they don't know but
because they haven't done it yet.
We always end up doing something new when we go and it always
works.
In short if you know the right people to work with, and the
right questions to ask, (and we do!!) then it's an experience
that is hard to beat.
